APA Style
In our last class we had a lecture on the APA style or the writing style used by the American Psychological Association. The lecture was very informative and very interesting. I had worked with this style on previous occasions but I never knew to what extent the APA style was helpful. I also wasn’t aware of the rigorous details that the style emphasizes on. I really learned a lot of new details that I didn’t even know existed before. I thought the information about citing and references was especially useful. Sometimes while we are writing papers we forget how important it is to give credit to others for their works. It is necessary that we be reminded to cite others and give their proper reference information. Researchers and writers go through a great deal of trouble and work to come up with their conclusions and it isn’t ethical for anybody else to take their work as their own. As I begin to research and read articles with pertinent information for my research question, I must keep in mind to list the references that I find useful and give proper references for all information that I use that is not my own. The lecture also called to our attentions the importance of having the APA style guide at hand while writing research findings, papers, and proposals. The APA style considers a great amount of details and has specific rules for everything from margins to abbreviations, thus it is important that we reference back the guide. It is impossible to remember all the rules the in the guide. We just need to be conscious and careful to make sure that we are writing appropriately and within the guidelines of the style, so that are work is able to be reviewed and considered of scientific value.
